I've had Team Associated products since 1985, and never got out the hobby. I still have the original RC10 buggy and RC10T.>>> However I have seen people come and go from this hobby. One big part of losing interest is RC education. Sometimes people get frustrated with trying to figure it out, too complex or didn't start out with something for a beginner. Another is, no one to run your RC's with, It get boring by your self. And of course money is always an excuse why people lose interest in this hobby, but It's really not that bad if a person paces them self and not have to have all this expensive eye candy, If a person is on a budget, you can still enjoy the hobby, just stay with stock parts.
It may get too expensive or they got into another interest. And maybe they want or need another car but they don't have the money.
when i finished high school i got more into dirt bike racing. Now that I am older and married and have two sons we (I) have really gotten back into it. Not quite as expensive, but just as fun, and I don't have to go as far to do it..
Most quit because they don't have the attention span or mechanical inclination to keep their cars running properly, or they just flat-out refuse to learn how to drive. I can't tell you how many people I've seen quit because they hit the same curb at the same angle going WOT for the fourth time and once again had to shell out $60+ to get parts.
Well sometimes when a person has no one to race or bash with you could lose interest. Another reason could be, there are no Factory Team kits or part available right now.
I got out of R/C for a bit I raced when I was 12-14 I raced on 40 bucks a week I made cutting lawns and I started having to cobb stuff so i could run needless to say this wasn't cutting it as I like to keep my cars in pristine condition now that I have a real job I'm back to racing. I'm a Losi guy tho sorry!
too expensive at times, and frustrating
They get a license.
Well in my own opinion to why people quit/lose interest is: other obligations or sometimes not enough money, or a lot of times there is not enough exposure to the sport. My reasons for getting out of it 2 years ago was the birth of my son and lack of funds. Now I'm back and just bought a t4 team truck and the wife can't be any happier (I'm being sarcastic). My son loves it and the neighbor kids all want to get one now...guess I started something on my own block.
It's just too expensive
They don't have anyone else to share the fun with.
I quit and am now coming back....I think I left @ the time because of cost, age, and the dwindling crowd @ the local parking lot racers....its just not as much fun alone.....I'm actually trying to talk my local store to start those back up w/ a little free elbow grease from me.....31 and just want to have fun
Because the cars break and take hours and hours to repair.
well one of my many wives told me that i cared more for my RC car than i did her i told her it wasn't true and she shouldn't talk so loud as my RC10 might hear her so i put her name on my rc planes and when she left i ended up crashing them into the ground nose first to spite her but come to think of it that's what she wanted oh well at least i still have my rc10
because like me I bought a crappy peace of r/c like a heli which had all of the electronics broken out of the box. list 250$ and sold it for 30 since it was not flyable. Something like that gets you down , should have bought a 3rd car.
This response pertains to the situation that I was in and I think many people probably go through this. I first got into the RC hobby in 1985 when I purchased a RC10. I was 20 then with extra cash and time on my hands to devote to the hobby. As I got older however, my hobby had to compete with my wife, and my job and later a family. It wasn't that I lost interest in the hobby I just didn't have the time or money to keep up with it. Now that I have an son that is 11 I would like to get back into the hobby. (p.s. I still have my RC10 & RC10L)
Kids grow up (or discover girls aren't as bad as they thought), people move to a location without clubs or LHS, bad club communities, the racing they like dies out (how many 1/4 scale sprint cars have you seen around? ), competing becomes too expensive, or discouraged by losses when competing above their skill level. The biggest is lack of support at club level for novice racers.
too expensive or they got tired of breaking stuff
people lose interest because people think rc is for little kids and some people can't afford it because they go to school and some have to buy cars.
Most people become disheartened from the destruction of vehicles from impact with curb. One day out at track I saw car run from interference and break up upon impact. The man threw his radio at the sky and exclaimed "hoorah" and he was done for the good.
