1999 Question of the Week:

What do you think are the pros and cons of being a sponsored racer?

There are too many pros to list, The number 1 reason i can think of is the friends you make when you get on a team. All the guys on associated have helped me out so much and stood by my side, i did have a fairly long drought, but the comeback is in effect, so look out in june at the ROAR nats, because PEE JAY IS BACK, and looking for a win.

The only cons i see of being sponsored is the pressure you get sometimes when you know you need to do good, but getting sponsored has to be one of the best things i can think of, just the team and the people you meet are worth all the practice and hard work....Jason (PEE-JAY) Ashton

There are many pro's to being a sponsored driver. Free chassis, motors, batteries, ESCs, ect. It would be great. the only cons would be it probably demands a lot of your time.

I like having a sponsor at local races, I dunno I just do, and sometimes bigger races I don't want to go to. My sponsor really implies they want me there, but traveling more and racing at different tracks continues to better my driving and setup skills.

I think that the pros of being a sponsored driver is that now you are driver for someone else. It's kind of like a job now, more than just for fun. And sometimes that can be nerve-racking, always thinking about winning and not having fun. Sometimes when you are thinking ab out winning, you lose more than when you are thinking about having fun. Obviously those are the cons, there are ups and downs to everything, a good driver will just have to be more optimistic to win more.

pro is the free or discounted stuff, the traveling and just racing all the time. The bad thing is you always have to do good and yer in the spotlight (which is good for some people)

I think the Pro's would be getting all the new free stuff to try out and your race fees paid! The con's are having so much expected from you as a racer. Kelly at krkroupa

Pros- you get help with some of the costs of competitive racing, You also sometimes get stuff others can't. Share ideas.
Cons- pressure to win. people locally say you win too much. sometimes can't be laid back as much.

It makes what once was fun, a job with all of the headaches and stress associated (no pun intended).

pros: get money, sweet rc car(s), sweet rc gear.
cons: have to go to most of the races, some don't have a good life style, some quit their jobs to race, some do not have wife-girlfriend (excluding good drivers like Mark and ones that have girlfriends who enjoy racing!)

I think the best thing is getting cool cars , and meeting top racers. I'm only 11, so the worst part would be traveling and then back to school.

One advantage is having more money to spend on your car. So that at least gives you a chance against the competition. The bad part is you feel the pressure to perform well for your sponser.

Are we talking Factory? If it's just sponsored there aren't any cons. If it's Factory I would say the long travel and being away from family would be the con. The list of pro's would take up to much room on here and never get posted. There is more to just being a good driver. You have to have a good attitude and be willing to work hard to obtain your goals that you and your sponsor set up. Most of all try to have fun! [Associated responds: Your point about a good attitude is correct. If anyone sees a Factory driver (or any other company's drivers) consistently demonstrating a poor attitude at the track, you should write to the factory with verifiable facts about the matter. We'd all like to know about it.]
