Comments: i recently bought a mmgt from WWW.AmainHobbies.com and after about 2 or 3 days of driving it took off on me and almost crashed luckily it flipped and since then it has lost range in less than 100 feet, i tried replacing the batteries i even bought NiMH receiver and controller batteries, what can i do? can i send in the transmitter and receiver for an inspection?

Yes, please send the transmitter and receiver to the address on the home page for inspection. It could be a cracked crystal. Once we determine the problem we will send them back to you. Be sure to include a copy of your sales receipt.

Comments: Can I convert my engine to use a roto/pro start and if yes what do I need

You will need to go to www.SullivanProducts.com  website. There they make a drill start conversion called the Tiger Drive. I am sure they make one that will fit the .18 as they make one for our .15 engine.

You can run it near water but the servo is not water proof so keep that in mind. If you do get it wet you will want to thoroughly dry the truck after you are done.

Comments: hi, whenever i give my truck full throtte, the truck takes its time to reach top speed (feels as though something is slipping), however, if i gradually give it throttle, nothing feels like its slipping. The clutch seems to be fine and i have tightend the slipper completly, i read in a previous post about something to do with the differential but i do not know what that is. I would appreciate if you could if you could reply back soon. Thank You. (btw, the gt2 is great!)

Inside the passenger side outdrive you will find an Allen bolt. This is your diff adjustment. Turn the bolt all the way down until it stops flush and back it out 1/8 of a turn only. This should stop your slipping condition. **************************************

Comments:Was wondering if it was possible to use a NTC3 3- shoe flywheel? if so is this a popular up-grade or is this overkill for the truck. I dont currently have problems with the 2- shoe clutch, Just asking for your opinion on the upgrade.

The only reason to use a 3-shoe flywheel setup is if you are a surface that has so much grip that it would help…otherwise you would be breaking loose the tires so much from the extra shoe that it would not be a benefit.

Comments:Hey guys I would like to say I am a new costumer and I love my new truck. I would like to know will the 8.0 fit in my new truck and what requirements. If not what is the best bottom end engine, that would work. Will the stock MGT 4.6SE pop wheelies if not what upgrades should I use?

The 8.0 will fit in the truck but you would need to upgrade the drive train. This can be expensive. The LRP .28 spec 3 engine works really well in the truck and has more power. Getting the truck to wheelie is hard because of the plush suspension. Try and lean the bottom end needle just a little. Be sure to lower your idle if you need to.

Comments: I have had quite a bit of fun with my truck, but now whenever I pull back the throttle all the way it dies. It also sometimes has a hard time starting and staying started...I live in Colorado if that makes it easier to help...please help!

Chrissy,

We have repeatedly instructed all our GT2s to carefully obey all the laws of the State of Colorado, so I don’t think living in Colorado is the problem. We’ll have to look elsewhere ...

First check the idle settings on your carb: remove the air filter and boot, then apply the brakes and check to see if the barrel is closing all the way. If it does, then you might have the idle set too low and when the carb barrel is returned to idle position or the brakes are applied the barrel closes off and then the engine dies out from lack of air.

The idle screw is a physical adjustment not a mechanical and it has two purposes.
1. It holds the barrel in the carb housing.
2. It sets the idle. If you removed the barrel from out of the carb housing you will see there is an angled slot that the idle screw rides in. Depending how far inward you turn the screw will determine where the tip of the idle screw will hit the side wall of the angled slot.

Sorry for rambling on, but I wanted you to understand how it all works. So check when you apply the brakes or let the car to go to idle that the carb barrel isn’t closed up so much that there is no air flow and the engine shuts off. And make any adjustments you need.

Comments: 2 questions:
1) Recently my engine has been running very sluggish. It use to have a "wheelie popping" acceleration and was the fastest thing on the track, now she has trouble getting up to speed. What is the average solution to this(there also is a lot more smoke coming out the exhaust)?
2) I wanted to know if there is a stronger steering servo for this truck, what you would recommend? The stock servo recently started having trouble in some turns and it is noticeable. -THNK

1. How much fuel has been run through the engine? If you are in the area of 3 to 5 gallons or you have over heated the engine then it could be time for a rebuild of the piston/sleeve and con rod. If the engine still has great compression, then check your carb settings. From your description the engine is running really rich. You might want to work on the High End needle setting to gain more power, but be careful - do not let the engine temp get over 260 degrees!

2. Yes we have a new digital servo that will work great in the truck for steering. The part number is 29166, model is DS1313, and the specs are 173.6 oz of torque and 0.13 speed.

Comments: more a driving question really getting the car to jump like the pro's, being new to nitro racing and not having the luxury of having split brakes before the car seems to react to violently to mid air braking and if i slacken the brakes to ease this i end up with too little braking on the car, am i missing something in the brake balance or should i simply use my handset to soften the initial braking for controlling car flight

You generally do not use the brakes in the air. Try turning the brakes down using the controller.

My question is are these set ups just what each driver prefers? I ask because there set-ups are so different refering to how the suspensions are set up. Where could one contact either driver to ask questions?

Yes, the setups are their preferences. Just because it works for them does not mean it will work for everyone. You should be close if you use one of their setups, though.

Comments: I have an rc10 gt2. I want to put a .18 engine in place of the stock .15. I recently purchased a .18 CV- RX engine. The place from where I purchased the engine listed that it would fit the rc-10GT series and I would have to buy the short shaft version. After I received the engine I discovered that it would not fit because the .15 is an SG style crank. I called them back and they told me to purchase an associated clutch nut and that should work. Well, it didn’t even come close. I am in the process of returning the engine and the accessories. Are there any .18 engines that will fit the GT2 truck without extensive modifications? Are there any that will simply bolt in, use the factory clutch and that’s it? Any suggestions will be truly helpful. By the way, thanks for the set up you recommended earlier for racing the GT2 on blacktop. It helped a ton!

The GT2 will accept an SG or short standard shaft. If you use the standard shaft it must be cut and an Associated #2312 clutch nut used.

Comments:I seem to have trouble getting my truck to make a sharp turn, even at low speeds. It seems to want to push out. I have full steering from the servo,i have 0 degree camber and run the 30 degree caster blocks. I also use proline edge front tires. All else on the truck is as it came from the box. any different set ups i can use to get more turning? Thanks for your help.

You can try a stiffer spring and/or heavier viscosity oil in the rear shocks. Also run some negative camber up front. Usually 1-2 degrees works best.

Comments: My low idle screw always gets loose and richens up everything. After i adjusted it back, for some reason it doesn't want to start again. Is there a diagram of how to put this back in correctly? I don't think its rocket science but i cant run

Are you talking about the low end needle that is in the middle of the front of the carb where the actuator arm is, There is a nut that holds the arm in place and in the center of that nut there is a slotted screw (the low end needle).

If that is the one you are talking about, remove it and see if there is damage to the O-ring. If the O-ring is damaged or missing that might be why it’s coming out - so the O-ring will need to be replaced. The part number for the O-ring kit is 29046.

If it is not the slipper clutch then the only other thing it can really be is the differential. Tighten it up all the way and back it out 1/8 of a turn, no more.

My problem is about my stock engine on my ntc3+. The engine could be worn out. There should not be hardly any play so I would guess the engine is worn.

You can’t determine speed that precisely. You have to use a speed gun.

Building the kit had nothing to do with cost. Simply put - people are not buying kits. The majority of our customers prefer to have their RC cars prebuilt.

That’s hard. We do not race on asphalt but you will want to get the truck as low as possible and use stiffer springs and oil. That way you reduce some of the body roll in the corners and maintain a higher corner speed.

Comments: Thank you for posting the results for the ROAR Gas Truck Nationals. I understand that anything 1/8 scale is the trend right now, and that will receive the most attention. I currently race the Kyosho ST-RR and the GT2. My point in posting the message the other day was to make it known that some guys still do like gas truck and there is nothing wrong with it. If anything, I think it helps to race a gas truck due to the skills set that it requires in order to drive it successfully. I just do not want to see the gas truck become extinct, that's all. Once again, thank you.

Comments: I would just like to voice my disgust with Associated for not promoting the GT2 like it should be promoted. It seems to me that the only items that are being promoted anymore are either 1/8 scale or 1/10 electric (this is only due to the lipo and brushless technology that everyone is currently promoting). I understand that an 1/8 scale kit grosses more capital on an annual basis than a 1/10 scale, but this does not mean that the GT2 should be neglected the way that it has been. Maybe it is time to revive the gas truck class by amending the rules so that it is now ROAR legal to run a .18 engine at sanctioned events.
In the end, what I am getting at here is that I would like to see more coverage of races that the GT2 is in. I know these are far fewer now than in the past, but nonetheless the GT2 should be promoted. I know that the ROAR Fuel Truck Nationals were just held, and I believe that Jared Tebo won with his GT2. So would it be too difficult to have and in-depth look at his GT2, or will this not happen either since the race didn't involve and Associated 1/8 scale in any way? I ate to say this, but Losi does a better job showing race results that showcase their xxx-nt better than Associated does.

Well, as with anything else, the newer vehicles will get the most attention. The GT2 has been out for quite some time now and obviously we will focus our attention what is the current trend. The gas national were just held and yes, Tebo won, so I am sure we will have something up on our web very soon.

OK, it sounds like there is a stripped gear inside the transmission that is locking the tranny up. It will need to be pulled apart to find the damaged gear or part. Once you find that let us know and we can possibly send the part out to you.

The low end should be set at 6 ¼ and the high speed at 2 ½. As you break the engine in you will be leaning out the high speed needle. The idle and drivability of the buggy will improve as this leaning out process progresses. ***************************************

Wild Cherry,
Please tell us exactly what happened so we can address your concerns. You are not giving us enough information to take any action. For instance, you bought and installed all the hopups. Does that mean you installed all the metal parts? If so, your truck would be heavier. If you want to race, you need your truck lighter. You add the metal parts only where you think it will give you an advantage in the race, not all at once. Plenty of MGTs have earned 1st place trophies, so go back to stock and start practicing!
