Questions

I want to know how I can get 0 degree toe-in on the rear wheels.

Why are non-pull start flywheels listed as "for non pull start only!" Is there anything wrong with using the smaller non-pull start flywheels on a pull start setup?

I have an RC10GT kit and updated it with your new stronger blue frame kit. The body on my truck does not line up with the pin holes any more.

Can you give me a recommendation of how often a rebuild is needed?

What is the top speed, in MPH, of the RC10GT truck?

I know that the GT Team chassis is longer than the standard chassis. What body fits that longer chassis?

I just a bought the FT RC10GT and the wing for the truck is missing.

What would a 360 Stinger Kit do for the RC10GT.

Is there supposed to a fitting for the pressure tube that goes into the pipe?

What are the best and correct servos I should buy for the RC10 GT.

The rear half shafts of the truck come out when the car spins out.

I would like to know if there is a on board electric engine starter for the rc10gt.

The spur gear rubs the right ream A-arm when rotated. Is there anyway to fix this?

What is the purpose of coiling the fuel line to the exhaust?

How often should I change the piston and arm in the engine.

Why does fuel drain into the pipe after running a half tank?

Does getting a spur gear with more or less teeth hurt my transmission? If not, would getting one with more or less teeth make it go faster?

White smoke and fuel flows out the exhaust. Is that normal?

I've just purchased the truck and I seem to be driving without brakes. The truck just won't stop.

I can't seem to find out how long the fuel line should be from the exhaust to the fuel tank.

Has the mounting for the rear wheels on a RC10GT changed? I am having problems finding wheels that will fit.

I found an adapter that will allow you to put street touring foam tires on a GT or T3.

I tried a shorter fuel pres. line, 7". The results were that my car started much faster, easier. With less pulls!

Why does everyone use your pipe?

What do you think of those metal spur gears?

Can I buy the complete rc10gt tranny?

My engine w/pullstart is hard to start. It takes about 20 pulls to get it to start to fire and the motor has to be almost flooded. Should I just give up and buy a starter box?

How do I get 0° rear toe-in?

Will the blue lock nuts fit the wheels on my rc10gt?

Are there other GT bodies besides that which came in the kit?

My flywheel does not stick out the bottom of the chassis for the starter donut.

I have a RC10GT that doesn't have a clutch spring.

My problem is the exhaust pipe touches the body.

I am having problems with my brakes--no matter what I do it still won't stop like it used to.

RC10GT rtr plus: I've upgraded to the 1\4 inch rear axles, but they will not house the stock rims.

RC10GT rtr: My truck won't move when it is on the ground. Right after I start it it will move slowly on ground but never gain any speed. then when picked up tires move.

RC10GT RTR+: I have a problem with my RC exhaust. I lost the gasket, installed a new one with new screws, and I have leaking exhaust pipe gases from the exhaust manifold.

Do you think the #1766 lightweight outdrive set is suitable for backyard bashing?

RC10GT rtr: What's the dial on the radio for?

RC10GT rtr: when you turn on the transmitter with the trigger squeezed it beeps repeatedly until you shut it off.

RC10GT: Brakes do not work. I tried using fuel tubing but it was even less effective and always would get cut off from the servo pressure.

42 Do you have any tips for removing turnbuckles?

43 I used black grease on the carbide bearings.

44 I'm having problems fouling glow plugs and getting it started and keeping it running.

45 Would a .12 engine be faster or quicker than the stock .15 engine?

46 What kind of composite lower arms are available? Any graphite arms?

47 The bearing in my 1999 GT bell housing is burnt up. What do I need to get?

48 When I get off the throttle my brakes lockup and I keep burning up clutch shoes.

Answers

1 I want to know how I can get 0 degree toe-in on the rear wheels.

#7364, arm mounts have 0 deg. toe-in, $2.00 (discontinued)
#7365, hub carriers have 0 deg. toe-in, $3.50
Use them both and you have 0 deg. toe-in. These were for the T-T2 originally.

2 Why are non-pull start flywheels listed as "for non pull start only!" Is there anything wrong with using the smaller non-pull start flywheels on a pull start setup?

You can use the non-pull start flywheel on a pull-start engine, but you'll have to adjust the idle. A pull-start flywheel will idle better.

3 I have an RC10GT kit and updated it with your new stronger blue frame kit. The body on my truck does not line up with the pin holes any more.

The chassis is ¼ of an inch longer; so it will require that you use truck body #6155.

4 Can you give me a recommendation of how often a rebuild is needed?

A rebuild needs to be done about every 3 to 5 gallons of fuel. General rebuild parts are piston/sleeve (#29010, retails for $40.00), and the crank rod (#29007, and it retails for $18.50).

5 What is the top speed, in MPH, of the RC10GT truck?

The RC10GT does not determine top speed, the engine does. Please contact the engine manufacturer for engine performance. However, 30-45mph is normal operating speed. If you intend to run on a straight track that runs for many yards with good traction, then you'll go faster than 30mph. If you intend to run in the dirt on a track with twists and turns, then you'll go slower, no matter what the engine.

6 I know that the GT Team chassis is longer than the standard chassis. What body fits that longer chassis?

The body that will fit is #6155.

7 I just a bought the FT RC10GT and the wing for the truck is missing.

The wing is part of the body. When you cut out the back panel on the truck that is the spoiler.

8 What would a 360 Stinger Kit do for the RC10GT.

Reduce its low end and potentially increase the top end ever so slightly. Best of all it will put the exhaust out the back end of the truck.

9 Is there supposed to a fitting for the pressure tube that goes into the pipe?

No fitting comes with the pipes. Just push the tube into the hole about 2 inches.

10 What are the best and correct servos I should buy for the RC10 GT.

For the front you need to have one with metal gears, bearings and good torque. For the throttle and brake, you should look for some torque but good speed.

11 The rear half shafts of the truck come out when the car spins out. One of the shafts comes out not all the way but enough for it to bind up. If you pick it up the shocks will fall down and the shafts will come out.

Either you have too much negative camber (top of the tire is leaning away from the chassis) or you need to add 2 or 3 shock limiters to the shock shafts inside the shock barrel. They are over-extending and allowing the shaft to come out of the outdrives.

12 I would like to know if there is a on board electric engine starter for the rc10gt.

There is no onboard starter that we know of that will fit the GT.

13 The spur gear rubs the right ream A-arm when rotated. Is there anyway to fix this?

Remove the roll pin in the upper shaft and rotate it so the "seam" in the pin is facing in towards the tranny.

14 What is the purpose of coiling the fuel line to the exhaust?

Coiling the fuel line helps the pressure to equalize in the fuel tank as fuel is used.

15 How often should I change the piston and arm in the engine.

The piston and rod should be changed at about 1 to 2-1/2 gallons of fuel.

16 Why does fuel drain into the pipe after running a half tank?

It sounds like you may have it set a little rich. Also some fuel in the pipe is really not that unusual.

17 Does getting a spur gear with more or less teeth hurt my transmission? If not, would getting one with more or less teeth make it go faster?

The recommended is 64 tooth or 66 tooth. Going down in tooth count will make the truck faster.

18 White smoke and fuel flows out the exhaust. Is that normal?

The white smoke blowing out of the muffler is normal. The raw fuel coming out of the muffler is a sign that the motor is too rich and needs to be leaned out. I recommend getting a temperature probe to check the engines temperature. By doing this you can tune the motor perfect each time you run the truck. The ideal temperature for a .12 size engine is any where from 200 - 230 degrees.

19 I've just purchased the truck and I seem to be driving without brakes. The truck just won't stop.

Click on the link at top which says, "Set up your brake/throttle linkage correctly."

20 I can't seem to find out how long the fuel line should be from the exhaust to the fuel tank.

The fuel line length is approx. 8 to 10 inches. Just be sure that you make a couple of loops in it like the directions.

21 Has the mounting for the rear wheels on a RC10GT changed? I am having problems finding wheels that will fit.

No it hasn't; we have two wheels sizes for two different kinds of axles:
For dogbones, use wheels #7800 (discontinued item) or 7802.
For CVD's use wheels #7803.
Your catalog will give more info on this, as well tell you what your color options are.

22 I found an adapter that will allow you to put street touring foam tires on a GT or T3.

The manufacturer is C&M, part #3012, (801) 974-0869.

23 I tried a shorter fuel pres. line, 7". The results were that my car started much faster, easier. With less pulls!

Running a shorter pressure line just means you are getting a higher pressure from the tuned pipe (there is less resistance and there will be more pulsing in the pressure, could lead to foaming in the tank). The longer tubing will even out some of the pulsing and it will make a slight reduction in the fuel pressure. But the main reason for the longer tubing is so that when you make a mistake and end up on your lid it will give you more time to get to the truck and turn it over before it shuts off.

24 Why does everyone use your pipe?

Most people run our tuned pipe because it is one of the best racing pipes available. It has a good broad power band and does work properly for both .12 and .15 engines. It just does not look fancy. Most people are not aware that we have been doing gas racing since the early 1970’s. Because of this we know a lot about performance tuning. The rear exhaust stinger system only has one problem, it is a longer exhaust so it will give you a lot more bottom end power but less top end power.

25 What do you think of those metal spur gears?

While the metal spur gear will not melt even if the idle is off, the clutch bell gets destroyed after about one or two runs. Now you have replaced a $4.00 wear part (standard spur gear) with an $8.00 wear part (clutch bell) that is harder to remove. This is why we do not use metal spur gears.

26 Can I buy the complete rc10gt tranny?

See the #7671 GT Transmission Kit.

27 My engine w/pullstart is hard to start. It takes about 20 pulls to get it to start to fire and the motor has to be almost flooded. Should I just give up and buy a starter box?

Unfortunately, this is the problem with pull starts on a two stroke type engine. When everything is set just right it will normally start in about 8 to 10 pulls on a cold engine. When something is just a little off it will take 20 to 30 pulls. The only advantage of a pull start is you can get into gas for about $100 to $150 dollars less and you do not have to carry as many items when you go run at a remote location. Over time almost everyone gets tired of pull starting and goes to a starter box or hand start motor with a car donut. If you can afford it a starter box is always the best option in my opinion.

28 How do I get 0° rear toe-in?

To get 0° of toe-in, simply reverse the #7358 hub carriers. Their 3° toe-out will cancel the arm mount's 3° toe-in. For more info like this, get the Complete Tuning Guide: GT. #7193, $3.95.

29 Will the blue lock nuts fit the wheels on my rc10gt?

Yes, the #6943 Factory Team blue lock nuts will fit the GT.

30 Are there other GT bodies besides that which came in the kit?

The only body Associated makes is the one that came with the kit. You might want to look into Pro-Line's line of GT truck bodies. They have several great-looking bodies for the GT.

31 My flywheel does not stick out the bottom of the chassis for the starter donut.

The flywheel should not stick out of the slot in the chassis. If it did, then the engine will stop if it bottoms out after a hard jump. Your starter donut should just fit into the slot so it contacts the flywheel.

32 I have a RC10GT that doesn't have a clutch spring.

The clutch spring has been excluded from all our kits. It is not needed to operate your truck.

33 My problem is the exhaust pipe touches the body.

Don’t worry--you mounted your body properly. The body will hit the pipe slightly. What a lot of people do is buy some heat resistant tape, which you can find a your local hardware store. Put this tape on the inside of your body where the pipe and the body touch and you will have no problems with the pipe wearing the paint off the body.

34 I am having problems with my brakes--no matter what I do it still won't stop like it used to.

Try replacing the brake spring with a piece of fuel tubing.

35 RC10GT rtr plus: I've upgraded to the 1\4 inch rear axles, but they will not house the stock rims.

The ¼ inch axles are the old axles; the newer axles are the 3/16.

36 RC10GT rtr: My truck won't move when it is on the ground. Right after I start it it will move slowly on ground but never gain any speed. then when picked up tires move.

Make sure your differential is properly tightened.

37 RC10GT RTR+: I have a problem with my RC exhaust. I lost the gasket, installed a new one with new screws, and I have leaking exhaust pipe gases from the exhaust manifold.

Try using two gaskets instead of one. This should stop the leaking out of the manifold.

38 Do you think the #1766 lightweight outdrive set is suitable for backyard bashing?

The lightweight outdrives are fine for running in the back yard.

39 RC10GT rtr: What's the dial on the radio for?

The dial is for your dual rate. It affects how much steering throw you will get left and right.

40 RC10GT rtr: when you turn on the transmitter with the trigger squeezed it beeps repeatedly until you shut it off.

It’s an internal fail safe. It will not allow you to operate the car unless the transmitter reads that the throttle is in the neutral position at start up.

41 RC10GT: Brakes do not work. I tried using fuel tubing but it was even less effective and always would get cut off from the servo pressure.

Try roughing up the brake disk and pad with some sandpaper.

42 Do you have any tips for removing turnbuckles?

Grab a ball cup near the turnbuckle with a small pair of needle nose pliers and twist upward.

43 I used black grease on the carbide bearings.

You have just used the wrong grease. You should be using our diff lube # 6591 on the diff balls. The black grease is the wrong one to use. You are going to have to clean everything out and start over with the correct lube.

44 I'm having problems fouling glow plugs and getting it started and keeping it running.

If it is brand new then what you are experiencing is normal. Once you start to lean the high-speed needle out, these problems will begin to disappear.

45 Would a .12 engine be faster or quicker than the stock .15 engine?

If you were to put in one of the many race .12s out on the market it would be noticeably faster.

46 What kind of composite lower arms are available? Any graphite arms?

There are no carbon arms for the GT truck.

47 The bearing in my 1999 GT bell housing is burnt up. What do I need to get?

The clutch bell is part number is #7605 and the bearings are #6902.

48 When I get off the throttle my brakes lockup and I keep burning up clutch shoes.

Loosen the drag brake nut at the end of the brake linkage. Loosen until the truck will roll freely when in neutral.
